iis smtp nntp: Hello,

I configured STMP for sending out emails only in windows 2000 with sp2.
It works fine for a couple of months, then it stoped
to work. All mails sent out will be queued and do not get delivered.

Is there some way to do debug for testing the problem? or How to find
the problem and fix it?

A problem that I have had with the SMTP component of IIS which is similar to
what you say was with e-mail relaying. If you use a smart host, make sure the
smart host IS NOT the same as the SMTP server, otherwise mail will get sent
to the same mail server over and over again in a loop.

If you are using a different sart host, then check to see whether it
responds to relaying (will apear in NDD anywayshould this be the case).

I would start by testing DNS name resolution on the SMTP server.

Then, check Windows Event Logs to see if anything is being logged

Lastly, wait 72 hours, and an NDR (non-delivery report) should be sent back
to the original sender - that should include some description of why the
message could not be delivered (you can change the default from 72 hours to
something else in IIS Manager)

Cheers
Ken

I use the internal IP address 10.10.10.xx directory for replaying and
sending out email. The DNS won't be an issue here/

Will check.
thanks.
