Messages being deleted by IIS5 with no expiration policy Markus D. Hartbauer

iis smtp nntp: Hello!

We are running IIS/W2K with the nntp Service with some 5-10 newsgroups. =
We use Microsoft Outlook Express (6) as Newsreader. The messages should =
be retained forever by the server, creating a "knowledge base" for the =
company.

The problem is, that IIS seems to delete the messages after some days =
EVEN THOUGH we have NO expiration policy specified.

Q:
Is this a bug or is there a default expiration?
If so, can this be modified or set to "none"?
Also, when creating a new expiration policy, I seem to HAVE to enter a =
numeric value for the hours (1-9999) and can't specify "NONE".

Please help. Thank you very much and best regards from Hannover

I've found a solution; it was no setting in IIS but rather in Outlook =
Express/Newsreader where under Extras>Options>Maintenance a 5 day =
interval for purging old messages is standard.

Thought this might be helpful to others also.

Regards,
Markus
