iis smtp nntp: We are sending emails using SMTP sending through our Exchange 2000 server
which has the relay turned off. If the email address is internal the email
is sent just fine but if the email address is external I get the following
error: 550.5.7.1 Unable to relay for ..... How do we setup the relay to send

Relay for localhosts only, or configure the relay for the IP range
you'll use.

If you haven't made any changes to the relaying properties, I believe the
error message is slightly inaccurate.

I believe the problem you are having is that your AD domain name does not
match your Exchange domain name. In other words, your domain name is
domain.local and your email addresses are @domain.com for example. If that's
the case, the default SMTP generation can be changed at:

Exchange System Manager > Recipients > Recipient Policy

Right click the policy with the highest priority (if multiple entries) and
select properties. Then go to the email addresses tab, and edit the SMTP
email addresses. Change this to the desired SMTP domain name.

Out of the box, E2K does not relay. I would recommend against enabling
relaying, even for the localhost. Check out this URL to test whether your
server is setup for relaying (required Telnet usage)

Hope that helps
