iis smtp nntp : unable to recieve external mail

the exchange 2000 server is not recieving external e-
mails. it is sending and recieving internal mail fine and
sending external mail. for some reason it is not
recieving external e-mail. the services are running...

How do you know it's not receiving external mail? (Hint: the error
messages and log files generated that tell you it's not receiving
external mail may also reveal the solution...)

Anyonomys access unchecked in the access tab on the
properties page. Although this is a unsafe condition, it
allowed mail from an external source in.

Does your domain's DNS configuration have a MX record that points to your
Exchange box?
