SMTP does not appear in IIS snapin Thomas McLeod

iis smtp nntp:
I have the Exchange tools installed on one Win2k server (SP4) but not
Exchange itself. I use the tools to remotely administer another machine that
does have Exchange installed. However, because the tools are installed I
can't administer SMTP on this machine. Apparently merely installing the
tools sets a flag somewhere to hide SMTP in the IIS snapin. Now, I still
need to administer SMTP on this sever and, since exchange is not actually
installed, the only way to do that is through the IIS snapin on a third
machine that has no Exhange components at all. However, this is extremely
inconveinent.

Can someone tell me how I can make the virtual servers re-appear? There must
be some registry tweak or metabase value to do this. Any help would be
greatly appreciated!

If running Exchange tools on system follow instructions in
this KB 274345 article
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;274345

If Exchange tools are not installed run the following command.

regsvr32 %systemroot%\system32\inetsrv\smtpsnap.dll
