Ok, here is where we are and what we are doing.
In the finest traditions of "when in doubt, reinstall" we have done so. So
we have Server 2003 Standard Edition and we have reinstalled SMTP. No
exchange, no active directory.
We've tried to follow Kristofer Gafvert's excellent tutorial entitled
"Install and Configure the Email Server in Windows 2003 + Outlook Express"
Everything goes fine until we try and configure the e-mail client to access
the account "bob" When we do so, and click on the "Check Connections' box, we
get a popup window asking for a password. We dutifully type in "bob" and the
password fails.
What are we doing wrong?
