Error 3 when trying to start SMTP service

We are running IIS6 on WIN2K3 Standard Server and when we try to start the
SMTP service the following error occurs:
"Could not start SMTP service on Local Computer. Error 3: The system cannot
find the path specified."
The properties of the service show that the path is

Hello.
I have a ASP script that uses CDONTS mail components to send emails.
My problme is that all outgoing emails are sent to queue folder ..
i am running smtp on win 2k server , with iis 5.
port is set to 25. network card has static ip address.( ip address assigned

There seem to be a problem when i attempt to add
attachment from the client machine to the mail message sent from the
web aspx server application.
I am using dot net and i expect security issues to block
attempts from aspx code to access the file system on client machine but not

I recently installed a fresh copy of W2K3 which will host
one of our websites. The site is currently on IIS 5.
Among other thigs the current IIS 5 emails me every time
there is an error in the funtionality of the pages via its
own SMTP Engine.

My intranet aspx application, needs to send email notifications.
I understand there are 2 options for servicing emails in this case:
1) iis smtp service.
2)proprietary email relay server like the company's exchange server.

Using WinSvr2003, I can't sent emails to anyone at aol.com, bigpond.net.au,
netscape.net, address.com, among others. This is the message I receive:
