iis smtp nntp : Mass Mailing with in Exchange Domain

I have been told that when a message is sent to a group
with in a domain that the message is stored once and
there is a pointer for each recepient to that mail
piece. However, I am also told that although the mail is
stored once that every recepient's mail storage
is "debited" for the size of the message.

Is this true or is there a better explanation of how the
storage of mail sent to a group with in a domain is
handled?

Thanks in advance!

True, though I thought only attachments had pointers. May also depend
on the version of Exchange.
