English : Hello ! Sorry for my bad english I'm trying to configure my nntp server on IIS6 ! I've install my server with 5 nntp groups of discussions ! No problem for read and post, in distant public access, with nntp client. My question is : How to admin those nntp groups, like an admin or moderator ? Witch configuration use in II6 for determinate who have acces to the admin command or fonction to manage newsgroups ? +++ THX
I am having the same problem, a few newsgroups that are not moderated but the admin still needs to have the ability to "cancel" inappropriate posts. I am using Win 2000 server. How does an admin sign in when you have specified both anonymous access and integrated security? What ACLs do you specify for
I think I have this figured out: In IIS Manager, NNTP Virtual Server properties, Access tab, Authentication button: check "Allow anonymous" and "Integrated Windows Authentication" (or "Basic Authentication" but this is not recommended). In Windows Explorer (on the server), right-click the newsgroup "control" folder, Properties, Security tab, Advanced button: uncheck "Inherit from parent..." and check "Replace permission entries..." Remove the anonymous user account and add the admin acccount. In your news reader client (e.g. Outlook Express), tell it that your server requires you to login and supply the admin account name and password. This seems to work. When you connect to the news server and login as admin, you have access to the "control" folder and NNTP will accept control messages. Anonymous users will receive "Access denied" if they try to send a "cancel" message.
It seems I spoke too soon. Setting up the newsgroup this way and using Outlook Express as a client, I am still unable to cancel other users' messages. OE disables the Cancel Message option on the menu unless you posted it. Does anyone know how to maintain administrative control over a
Translation for Andi: OK, so far so good. Now, how does the moderator approve the posting and post it? We are talking about non-moderated newsgroups. How can an admin delete inappropriate posts in a non-moderated newsgroup? [quoted text, click to view] "PeterD" wrote: > Translation for Andi: > > OK, so far so good. Now, how does the moderator approve the posting > and post it?
Hi all, this works indeed. But how is the way to release the postings threw a presenter? Hi all, I used outlook express until now to connect to my newsgroups. But it seems unpossible to moderate a group with this tool as you can see here: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;302530&sd=tech They write: " Any NNTP client can be used to post messages to a moderated newsgroup. However, the moderator must use an NNTP client that supports moderating functions. " Does anybody know a free newsreader with this function? Thx!
