iis smtp nntp:
Hello, I am using the smtp relay feature in iis to send messages. I am
sending messages to this via .net and cdonts when sending outbound
mails. For the most part this is working for me.

I am not using a smart host and each webserver tries to send the mail
directly. Unfortunately, a certain number of messages end up in the
queue and sit there for a while. Sometime these messages get resent
much later even a month or two after they were created.

I noticed when I restarted IIS that the messages were sent out. Does
anyone have any ideas on why some messages end up just sitting in the
queue and then get sent out much later and will this occur on an iis
restart?

Hello,

The Event Log can usually tell you what is wrong. Please take a look in it
and see if you have any relevant messages.

Start->Run, eventvwr.msc

I looked in there and there were a bunch of messages from the smptpsvc
about a connection lost to the remote host, etc. Looked like a bunch
of connection problems, but I thought that after a message sat in the
queue for two days it should be removed?

We've seen that with cdonts before also. Try using a smarthost for those
servers.
