Problem Overview:

that there are MANY emails in the queue folder. I have
figured out that if I stop the smtp service and then move
the e-mails from the queue folder into the pickup folder
and then start the smtp service that the emails do get
delivered. However, this keeps happening multiple times
on a daily basis. The only way I know that this is
happening is when a user tells me outside emails seem to

Probably a connection issue and the messages are stuck in the queue
and are retried on a schedule. Check network connectivity between the
Brightmail and Exchange server. Also enable logging and see if there
is any clue (timeouts etc) when the messages are attempted to transfer
to the Exchange box.
