W2003 server acting as SMTP relay only, no drop? edavid3001 NO[at]SPAM gmail.com

iis smtp nntp:
I have a private network with a few users. I want to have the W2003
server configured to relay ALL e-mail to our mail SMTP mail relay for
this network. I don't want any DROP folder, as I don't want anything
to be considered local. We have a POP3 server running at HQ that they
need to use.

The problem I am facing is that if the user doesn't specify the
@domain.com, then the W2003 server adds the default domain to the
address, and drops it in the mail drop folder where it sits.

This can occur because the LDAP in Outlook 2003 doesn't work correctly
always. If I put in USERCODE, LDAP should translate that to
EMAILADDRESS@domain.com. Sometimes this doesn't occur, and so it goes
to USERCODE. W2003 SMTP then adds @default.com and it sits in the drop
directory.

This also is occuring on read receipts.

Without W2003 server in the loop, our current SMTP relay will reject
the e-mail stating invalid recepient.

How do I do this?

Also, read receipts to outgoing domains are being dropped in the local
drop folder. That seems to be a bug.?

To answer my own question, Microsoft 2003 SMTP server cannot be used as
an smtp relay. It does not support this capability.

To do this you need something like Sendmail, MimeSweeper, or eSafe
SMTP.
