I have read many many articles about this but none of the fixes seem to
apply to me.

We have a pretty flat exchange structure. We have a W2k3 server as our
SMTP relay exposed to the internet. That relay sends the mail to our
one and only E2k3 server. There are no other mail servers in our
network.
We still have problems with incoming messages from certain sending
systems.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

We have a similar setup.
Isa server in front for smtp and Exchange 2003 at the back and a 5.5
exchange server wich will be replaced.

Exactly the same message comes with some mails.
smtp;554 5.6.1 Body type not supported

I found that some messages contain chracters which are not supported bij
5.5 exchange.

A mail with a character in the body a i with ¨ ontop so ï will generate
the error. a plan ¨ will do the same.
Maybe you mail server also does not recognize certain characters.

Are you running a Cisco PIX firewall with Mailguard or Fixup on SMTP?

If so, check out http://tinyurl.com/3nyww

Turning mailguard off fixed this error for me.
