Hi,

Our exchange sever 2000 is installed with Active Directory on Win2000 server
and the Exchange server is using in just only local emailing and some users
have pop3 internet connection so they can send and receive internet email
from our mail internet server ( this service is taken from a ISP). Even
though some users don't have internet access ( we are using ISA 200 server )
they can send email to outside. I would like to restirct the users except
who has pop3 email accounts. I couldn't find a way to restict the users. Is
that any way to do it.?

Best Regarts,

Hi,

You didn't write how they are able to send (directly from the client or thru
the exchange server?).

In both cases you should be able to stop this in the ISA server.

Email is sent by ms outlook and it sends the email to the exchange server.
The server has internet connection so they can send email to outside. It is
not associate with ISA server or some permission settings.

Hi,

The exchange server does not go thru the ISA server when connecting to the
internet?

If it does you should be able to deny SMTP connections from the server.

Dear Leif,

The exchange server goes thru the ISA server but I still insist that It is
not associate with ISA server.

Let's try to understant.
a user which doesn't have any internet access permission but the user can
use a exchange server client program such as ms outlook. The user send a
email to a outside email address (help@microsoft.com) the email goes to the
exchange server. Now the exchange server sends the email to outside and
exchange server has internet connection. I have given deny permission the
user for smtp smpt server smtps and smtps server protocols but it still goes
to the email address. also you can check the
http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/MF025.html address for Exchange server
2003 but our exchange server is 2000 therefore I can't apply it.

Thanks.

Hi,

My assumption was that nobody should send emails thru the Exchange server
and that you therefore could deny all SMTP connections from this server -
isn't that your case??

Anyway this should also help: http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/MF009.html

Jumping in late...

So you have users.
Some users have POP3 mail boxes.
Some users do not have POP3 mail boxes

you want only users with POP3 mail boxes to be able to send *external*
email, right?

You want all users to be able to send *internal* email, right?

(or am I so far in left field that I'm out of sight? <g>)

I'm not sure you can do this without writing code. Maybe someone else
knows of an easy way.
