iis smtp nntp : Mail message stay stuck in queue

I use the virtual smtp server on a windows xp machine. While testing the
sending of email (using vb.net code in Vs2005) I noticed that the email
messages get sent to the queue but they are stuck there and do not go out.

Any idea why this would be so and how to fix it?
The smtp service on the localhost is started. I am on a LAN with a domain
controler and AD, 5 machines - no exchange server - also have an ISA server
2004 firewall - the smtp protoclos are open on it I can send and get mail
using my outlook 2003 on the same machine OK.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Bob

Look in the eventlog for messages from the smtp service and also enable full
logging on the smtp service and see what happens when it tries to connect
and deliver the emails.
