iis smtp nntp : Using IIS SMTP to route to external Exchange server

We're running a Windows Server 2003 file server, domain controller and our
email is outsourced to an Exchange ASP. We have a new multifunction printer
that has a 'Scan to Email' function we want to use, but the printer uses LDAP
to find an internal mail server to use for it. Since our Exchange server is
external, there's no way to configure the printer to see it. So...

I'm thinking there should be a way to setup the printer to find the IIS SMTP
server, which will relay messages to the external Exchange server. However,
the mail server requires authentication so I can't just set delivery to it
using a smarthost. Ideally I think I want the SMTP server to just send out
the emails to example@example.com - they'd resolve the correct place to
deliver and go to the users account like if you sent them an email from
anywhere. Maybe I create a user named 'Printer' and users get their scanned
document in their inbox from 'Printer'. I'm not sure how to go about doing
this though - help is much appreciated.

Thanks,

Can't you add an LDAP entry for the external server in your AD? It's
an AD topic so post to an AD group for details.
