Local SMTP server instead of my ISP:s??? Bo Berglund

iis smtp nntp: I have run into a problem with my ISP's SMTP server in that they have
started to do content filtering on *outgoing* email! They actually
block all email going out that contain attached files of type .exe
..com .vbs, .pif, .scr .bat .cmd .com .mim .b64 .bhx .hqx .xxe .uu .uue

And it does not matter if I embed the exe files I want to send to my
customers inside a zipfile, the ISP filter still locates the file. And
on top of this if I rename my .exe to something else like .hej and the
zip to .tjo or similar it still manages to find the exe file and stop
the email. What a pain!

So I figured that I should try to use the Virtual SMTP server
installed with my IIS installation (I am using XP Pro SP2) for sending
mail.
But when I had configured it as good as I figured I could and tested
sending mail from my mail client, it reaches the server (I see this by
the Symantec antivirus scan message) but then nothing! How can I get
the mail to actually leave the Virtual SMTP server and reach the
recipient?

I am sitting on a home LAN behind a DLINK router behind an ADSL2+
modem with a 7 Mbps broadband access. The PC:s on the LAN have
addresses in the range 192.168.0.130 to 254.

Any pointers to documentation of how to set up a system like this are
really welcome! I must be able to send the result of my work on to my
customers! (I am a software developer)

/Bo
