Hello,

Can anyone recommend good SQL Server 2000 book/material that is
comprehensive yet an easy read that also serves a good background to the
70-228 and/or 70-229 exams. I'm not a DBA (more of systems/network admin),
so I
want to concentrate on 70-228 first. I also want to KNOW SQL Server, not
questions and answers to the test(s). Any help on this will be appreciated.
I
can be e-mailed @ cgracia AT optonline DOT com

Thanks

Cruz

Cruz:

Print out the test requirements from www.microsoft.com/mcp.
I found the following helpful understanding the exam topics and goals.

-Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Unleashed, SAMS, ISBN: 0-672-31997-7
-SQL Server's Help, Books Online
-Web articles. Do a search for the topic you are studying for and see
what tutorials you find online.

Inside sql server is the only sql server book I get.
SQL server 6.5 unleashed was good but the following versions not so
good (something to do with change of authorship?) - good as I only need
one book now.

It is not a tutorial and not a preparation for exams. It is good for
people how already know the product but want to understand it in
more depth.

If you just want to pass the exams then buy books dedicated to that and
get the transcender practice exams - but don't confuse the certification
with experience or expertise.

I primarily want to know the product. Only reason why I want to get
certified is so that I can have justification for a raise. I have an IT
background worth 8+ years and am still a relatively young man. However I
don't have anything, other than a high school diploma and barely 2 years of
college, that will get me the raise I want (which isn't much but still).
Plus the same number of tests that I need to be an MCSE I can go for a MCDBA
if I just take those tests plus the remainder for MCSE....hell why not go
for it?. I don't plan on taking 70-228 until I know I'm comfortable with SQL
itself.
