You cannot install Enterprise Edition (or Standard Edition) on a workstation
operating system, you must have a server operating system, Win 2000 xxx
Server or Win 2003 (any edition but Web Edition).

When you think of it, it makes sense. A server should run on a server-
operationg system.

What you can install on XP is Developer Edition, which has all the
functionality of Enterprise Edition. What is different is licensing.
Developer Edition is for just that. That is, you cannot run a production
database on Developer Edition.

Just to add to what Erland said, I think that you can download the
evaluation edition (either 90 or 180 days) and it will run on Windows XP.
But the Standard and Enterprise editions will not run on Windows XP.
