Basically i need to know if its a good or bad idea and why.. im
running a server with sql server with a friend and someone wants to
run borland interbase of it.. we stand to make some money which is why
im thinking about it, but im worried it'll be too much for the

I know absolutely nothing about Interbase, but the general answer is
"it depends". If you run any two applications on the same server, then
you have to manage the server's resources (CPU, RAM, disks) to avoid
contention between them. For example, SQL Server will take as much
memory as possible by default, so you would need to limit it, so as to
leave memory available for Interbase.

Without detailed information on the hardware, the databases, the
application load etc. it's not possible to be more specific. You'll
really have to look into it yourself, possibly starting with Perfmon
to get an idea of how heavily used the various system resources are.

Thanks for the advice and ill keep researching. I realise the resource
issues to an extent.. i think i might be ok there. Im more worried
about certain conflicts between the two applications that ive heard
rumoured. Unfortunatelly i know nothing about interbase also.

So if anyone knows of any conflicts between interbase and sql server,
or any other good reasons for not having them run of the same machine
pls let me know.. very many thanks :)
