Norton Anti-Virus Affecting SQL Across Network--

I help maintain a small software package developed using Microsoft
Visual Basic that utilizes Microsoft SQL Server.

I'm having major speed issues when it comes to making queries across
the network. I have tracked the problem down to Norton Anti-Virus. If
I disable the realtime virus scanning the speed is not increased and
still runs slow. If I completely uninstall Norton then my queries go
down from 20 seconds to 2 seconds.

I have tried MCAFFE Anti-Virus and have no problems.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Any help is appreciated.

BTW, this is reproducable on different networks with Norton Anti-Virus

It's not really clear from what you say above if the antivirus software is
on the server or the client, or both, and where you disabled it (server,
client, both). Assuming you're talking about the server, you should probably
exclude the database files from scanning:
