sql server (microsoft) : standard edition with 5 CALs licensing

A User CAL is a licence for a single person to access a SQL Server.
A Device CAL is a licence for a single device to access a SQL Server.

Under server/CAL licensing you need to licence each end user or each device
irrespective of how many are connected or "running". There is no restriction
on the number of licensed users who can be connected simultaneously.

hi

if i have ms-sql server standard edition with 5 CALs licensing - what
does it exactly mean?
1. what exactly is a CAL?
2. is it so that if i have 5 processes actually running and the 6th one

have to wait till one of the first 5 is finished?

thanks

but if i have a ms-sql server installed on a webserver (only asp.net is
connecting to the sql-server) - how many/which CAL's do i need??

thanks

If it's a public web server then you need a Processor Licence. If it's an
intranet web server then you have the option of CAL or Processor licensing.
If you go for CALs then you need a licence for each web client user so based
on that number you should evaluate whether CAL or Processor licensing will
be more cost-effective for you.
