sql server clients : XP Pro and SQL Server 7.0 not playing well together...

I have been trying various scenarios all afternoon trying to get XP Pro and
SQL Server 7.0 to play well together. SQL Server (client version, of course)
seemed to install well and no problems there. However, when I go to register
my server and connect to it, I get the following error:

[Begin error message]
A connection could not be established to <my XP machine name> - You must
upgrade your SQL Enterprise Manager and SQL-DMO (SQLOLE) to SQL Server 2000
(SQLDMO) to connect to this server.

Please verify SQL Server is running and check your SQL Server registration
properties (by right-clicking on the <my XP machine name> node) and try
again.
[End error message]

I have searched M$ downloads site for a couple of hours now and cannot seem
to find these components listed as being available. Can anyone help me
decipher this error message and tell me where the necessary components might
be downloaded?

Any help/advice appreciated in advance.

It sounds like there's a mismatch somewhere, some SQL2K component may exist on your machine. Try installing the SQL2K client tools, they
can be used to administer SQL7.
