large data - connection timeout

I have 11 tables and fire query on them with joins as right and inner joins
between them.The data is in lakhs (5 lakhs).
The query gives connection time out even in enterprise manager.
I tried different optimisation techniques as Index tuning wizard and all.

We have some SQL 7 servers and some SQL 2000 servers. I
have loaded the client utility for SQL 7 and SQL 2000 on
my workstation. I have connected to one of the SQL 7
servers through Query Analyzer and was successful in doing
a query.
Are there any problems with only loading the SQL 2000

Hi,
At One of our PC (Windows XP) we are using a VB
Application and which is connected to the SQL Server
Remotely through VPN Setup. The Application works fine for
some forms and Fetches the records from the database but

I'm new to SQL server. I installed SQL server on windows
2003 server.
And I installed the client on my windows Xp workstation.
When I try to connect with the SQL server, it gives error
message:

When i try to retrieve text data from the front end client
i get some of the characters as junk. For example: my
column contains the following data
Actual data
Everyone’s life is cool....
