Hi,

I installed SQL server 2K on my winXp Pro, and have created a few tables in
my sql database. When I want to enter some data using Query Analyzer from
the Tools menu...but for some reasons it never bring up Quezy Analyzer...

Any ideas?

Peter -

Is there any specific error message that is reported?
Did you look into the error logs for any errors?
what is the edition of SQL Server you are using - Personal or Developer?

Try installating just the SQL Server client tools once again from the
installation CD.

Regards

Pragya

There were no error at all. It justs that QA doesn't open up or anything, I
don't even see the screen. The version I got is SQL Server 2K, Enterprise
Manager, hope that help.

Can you run QA directly? Did you install SP3a on your client tools?

Something appears to be broken with your installation. Did you apply
SP3a?

I do remember that I had problems starting QA on my machine when it was
new. Our sysadmin gave me a ghoest box with the SQL Server tools installed.
Let's see, it was when I added the server parts, including SP3a, that
things broke down. I don't remember if I was able to run Enterprise Manager
- I don't use EM very often - but I recall that command-line OSQL also
failed to work. OSQL eventually gave up with a funny error message. QA
just never opened, it was there in Task Manager, but was never brought
to life.

I was able to get everything to work eventually, although I don't really
remember how. Probably I uninstalled SQL Server entirely, and then re-
installed. Notice that if you do this, you will not lose your databases,
but it is a good idea to take a backup before you reinstall.
