When Installing a second copy of SQL Server on the same
server, is there a danger that our main database could be
overwritten?

I have had a recent server crash for unknown reason and I
am not able to execute any exe files or dll types. My
data is still on the server and I have done a parallel
installation of Server 2003 which has got me back up and
running on my server, however before I install SQL I want
to be sure the database will not be erased when I perform
the second install of SQL. Anyone have any suggestions or
has anyone tried this before.

It should not remove any data files that currently exist. But why don't you
copy them somewhere just to be safe?
