RE: The node lost communication with cluster
Posted by Denny at 4/23/2008 11:58:12 PM
I need some help on how to correct getting Event ID 1123 and Event ID 1122 on one of two cluster nodes every hour or some times frequently. Two times a not main node was removed from active cluster membership(Event ID 1135). This is a two node cluster running Windows Server 2003 EE SP1 (NovaScale 30...more >>

What you will need is one or more fibre channel adapters (called Host Bus Adapters or HBAs) in each host computer. These can connect directly to the SAN/Smart array or through a fibre channel switch. The configuration is different for each. Fibre channel is really just a wrapper protocol aro...more >>

Lets see. x64 is definitely the best bang for the buck in the range you are looking at. More memory will help. Put in as much as the box can hold. Obligatory naming rant: Active/Passive really doesn't describe how things work. You are building a two-node, single-instance cluster. That...more >>

The answer is that SQL services share some common components. Plus, the installer has some generic setup logic. Finally, are you using the same service account for both services? If so, then permissions can get hosed during a broken update. -- Geoff N. Hiten Senior SQL Infrastructure ...more >>

Talking about nomenclature, unless your I/O traffic goes through some kind of FC switch(es) or at least a hub, I wouldn't consider the storage setup as a SAN. It's more like direct-attached. From what you just described, I'm not sure you want the cost of setting up a full-fledged SAN, which...more >>

Don't servers in the same cluster point to the same data on the SAN? We have created additional RAID arrays (more disks) to improve performance in addition to the beefed up servers. The only risk I'd see is in a 2-node cluster and you evict one node. If you don't get the new node back into the cluster, then if the last remaining node fails, you're down. That's why I prefer to add a node before evicting an old one. -- Tom --------------------------------------...more >>

You have to run the setup for each virtual server to tell the cluster to use only the remaining nodes. The SQL Servers will not be downgraded to RTM. Even though you are running "setup", it's not installing anything. It's just configuring. Setup can also be used if not evicting a node fr...more >>

Best practices for physical disk usage do not change because a SAN is involved. You can attach a SAN to a SQL serve and store data files on the SAN. Follow the usual practices when moving SQL data files and you should have no problems. Mirroring is supported on appropriate SAN hardware. ...more >>
