sql server clustering : General MSCS Windows 2000 question

Hello all,

Excuse me fore some language failures (i'm from the Netherlands).

I have a generic question about MSCS Windows 2000.

I installed MSCS on both nodes, and try to run some test before production
time.

---
Test:
---

- Boot node 1, who then ones all resources.

- Boot node 2, who doesn't own anything.

- Manual failover from node one to node two works fine.

- When all resources are on node 2, stopping the cluster service results in
failover of al resources to node 1. Just as expected.

- Now, when node 1 owns all resources, i expect when stopping the cluster
service on node 1, than all resources failover to node 2. But they don't do
that. Result is the stopping of the custer service on both nodes wich
result in: cluster no loger available.

My questions:
Is this normail behavior?
Is the an dependancie between the cluster service node 1 (which booted
first) and node 2. A sort of master/slave?

----

Thanks for your reactions.

This is the expected behavior. If by the time you shut down the cluster
service on node 1, the cluster service on node 2 had already been started
and working properly, the resources would have failed over to node 2.

Note that for the resources to failover to a node, that node must be a
functioning cluster member. If the cluster service is down, the node is not
a functioning cluster member.

The answer to your second question is that, there is no master/slave
relationship between the cluster nodes. Whichever node successfully boots
first will form the cluster on the network, and second node will join the
cluster when it boots when everything goes well.
