sql server clustering : New Cluster Setup ??

We are in the process of setting up our first SQL 2000 cluster on Win2k Adv server with a Dell EMC fibre san device. My question is regarding the cluster configuration. We are doing this in a 2 phase approach. Phase 1 will be the SAN device and 1 of the 2 sql nodes for Active/Passive. I would like to configure the 1st sql node with Win2k Adv server and install the cluster service and make the necessary configs and install SQL standard edition. The 1 node server will then access data and log files on the SAN. In phase 2 upgrade to SQL ent edition and add the second win2k adv node with SQL ent edition. Should I wait to configure the cluster service in win2k? Just configure the 1 node cluster service and upgrade sql standard to ent in phase 2 and bring the second node online? The latter is my preference but..I'm wondering what is the best scenario with the least aggrevation and downtime?

Thanks,
chris

I have never seen this done in this fashion, Is your
Production data base currently running on one of the
nodes/San
that will be in the cluster.

Ok, for one reason or another my posts never showed with multiple attemts.... Our end game is a 2 node sql active/passive cluster connecting to a Fibre SAN device. Currently we have a stand alone Win2k-SQL 7 standard edition db. In phase 1 I would like to migrate to a stand alone Win2k Adv server SQL 2000 standard edition, the data and trans logs will go on the Fibre SAN device. The Win2k server would have clustering enabled with a virtual server created. In phase 2 add a second Win2k Adv server with SQL 2000 Ent edition and upgrade the SQL 2000 standard edition to Adv and create the sql cluster. I have been told this is possible but I just need to find the best install scenario. I'm hoping to just upgrade in place? My biggest concern is the SQL data, I know I can enable a single node windows cluster and add the second later but not to sure about the upgrade and cluster enabling on SQL 2000?

Any links and/or best practices would be appreciated.

Im a noob at SQL but Im a safety type guy. Cant you simply export the dbs
to a temporary area (backup even) and then upgrade the server and then
import the dbs again? Im just learning SQL admin now but I would think
thats the best way to do it. Or I know you can export a db and then
relink it to a new server (read it in the sql study guide, yes I
know..heh)

Maybe thats your best bet.
