Hello,

I have read through many messages with similar subjects to this one
I'm posting, but I haven't been able to find any solutions that work
for my problem.

I have a Windows 2000 SP3 Cluster running on a Compaq Proliant CL380
with SQL Server 7.0 installed. I've just recently "inherited" this
cluster in it's existing state and I didn't have any hand in setting
it up or configuring it originally.

When the SQL Server Group fails over to the second node, the SQL
Server Agent will not start, although it runs fine on the first node.

Below is the Application Log Error I receive on the second node:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: SQLServerAgent$SQLWEB
Event Category: Disk
Event ID: 103
Date: 10/29/2003
Time: 12:55:45 PM
User: N/A
Computer: SQL2K02
Description:
The description for Event ID ( 103 ) in Source ( SQLServerAgent$SQLWEB
) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary
registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a
remote computer. The following information is part of the event:
Unable to connect to server; SQLServerAgent cannot start.

I know I'm probably not providing enough information for someone to
even begin helping me with this problem, but instead of rambling on
with information that is probably not pertitent, I'll just say that
I'll try my best to answer any questions that might shed more light on
this issue.

Thanks very much in advance for any help,

Are there any ODBC connection error in the Application log related to SQL
Server or SQL Server Agent?

Thank you for following up Rand.

No, there are no ODBC errors in the Application log.

Are there any other logs or events I should be looking for?

Thanks!

You can look in the cluster.log in the Winnt directory. It may give you
some insight into what is happening.
