sql server clustering : SQL Vitual Server

SQL Newbie
1/13/2004 9:09:23 AM
I have a two node Active/Passive SQL cluster. I need to
know how I can bind two IP addresses to the SAME vitual
SQL cluster name. I need to add my vitual SQL instance
to a Backup network on a private network segment. To
achieve this I have added two other network cards to each
hosts with the private IP scheme on each. Now I need to
figure out how to address the Virtual SQL server instance
with an IP that conforms with the private IP scheme of my
backup network. Help in this direction would be greatly
appreciated.

Thanks,

Here are the steps to add the new virtual IP address :

Insert the SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition CD, and then click SQL Server
2000 Components.
Click Install Database Server.
On the Welcome screen, click Next.
Type the name of the virtual server that you want to modify, and then click
Next.
Click the Advanced options tab, and then click Next.
Click Maintain a Virtual Server for Failover Clustering, and then click
Next.
In the Failover Clustering dialog box, you can:
-Add an IP address for additional networks.
-Remove and replace an existing IP address.
-Remove IP addresses that you do not need.
Click Add, add the new IP address and select the new network. Click Next.
Make any changes to the nodes (not required for adding new IP address), and
then click Next.
Verify the requested user information and password, and then click Next.
To verify that the changes were made, see the SQL Server 2000 IP resource
properties in Cluster Administrator for the virtual server.
Click Finish.

Additional Information:
---------------------------------
Assign only one IP address for each network and one network for each
network adapter. SQL Server requires that each IP address that is assigned
to it have its own unique subnet mask. SQL Server does not support multiple
IP addresses on the same subnet because this may result in duplicated names
on the network. For example, if you have a public network and a private
network and you want to assign an additional IP address to your SQL Server
virtual server, you must add another network adapter to each node to create
a new network. You can then assign the additional IP address to the new
network.
