Re-apply Service Pack after new node is installed? P. Carignan

sql server clustering:
I had to build a new node to replace a crashed node in my
SQL cluster.

After installing MSCS & SQL, I can transfer my resources
from one node to the other.

But, SQL has some problems.

Looking at the files, I see SQLSERVR.EXE to be a different
version on each servers.

Do I need to reapply the service pack only on my new node
with SQL? That and the hotfixes I have installed on my
working node?

TIA

Ok, I assume you properly removed the node using SQL install 'ADVANCED
OPTIONS' and later reinstalled RTM binaries by adding the node back in using
the same choice path. Service packs are actually easy. Simply run the
service pack from the node that needs its binaries updated. The readme.txt
file explains that running the service pack from the node hosting SQL will
update binaries AND sql internals while running the service pack install
from another node will simply update local binaries IF the current host has
both updated binaries AND updated SQL internlas.

In other words, if everything is ready, you can just apply the service pack
th the current 'passive' node and everything should be OK, but only if all
the earlier steps were done correctly.

Hi Geoff,

Thanks for the quick answer, again. I will be checkink the
readme for the steps necessary and will report back here
when all will be done.

Have a nice day,

P. Carignan
