Hi
I had a sql 2000 cluster with 2 node active\active and
I would like to rename my sql default name to another
name but MS recommend to uninstall and reinstall sql
If I uninstall just the default name. Will it create
any impact on my second instant name? Have any one done
this before? Please give me some advised how to do this
with
out impact the production on my sql second instant name.
Thanks you in advanced

When you uninstall, your default instance, install the new named instance and apply the service pack and hotfixes (if any), you will need to do at least one reboot on each node in your cluster. You will need to schedule at least two small outages while resource from the active SQL Instance is failed between nodes.

No. Uninstalling the default instance will not affect your named instance.

If you have a test/dev cluster, test it.

As a safety factor, make sure that you have SQL Server full database backups of all your databases for BOTH your instances.
