I am installing SQL Server 2005 RTM ent in a 2 node cluster
Details - Windows 2003 Ent, SP3, QUAD PIII, 6GB ram per node

Error Message: Setup failed to start on the remote machine. Check the task
scheduler log on the remote machine

Notes:
-These are QA boxes, rebuilt, the account I am using to install has Local
Admin rights and since this has failed a few times, we bumped up the domain
rights on activ directory.
-The boxes had SQL Server 2000 cluster installed with 2 instances, upgrading
the instances failed with the same message
-If i evict one node from the cluster, I am able to install, but will not
let me re-join the evicted node

Has anyone come across this ? any ideas how to corretc this ?

Hi

Please read setupsql9.chm in the Setup\help\1033 directory.
Section is called " Before Install Failover Clustering"

I read thru and made all the changes - I am posting the question after
reviewing the material...

is there a particular setting you would suggest I review ?

ps: SQL 2000 cluster installs pretty fine

yes all those were running by default
DTC is up

I finally seem to have success - I shut down McAfee antivirus and disabled
NetBios on the private network

SQL Server 2005 cluster database instance is up and running, also installed
instance 2 running analysis services and its running ok

Thanks alot

Have you verified that the Task Scheduler service and cryptographic services
are indeed running on all nodes?

Also have you looked at the task scheduler log like it says.
