sql server clustering : SQL2000 Cluster on Windows 2003 SP1 Cluster

Hello Folks,

By tomorrow, I will be installing SQL2000 Cluster on Windows 2003 SP# 1
Cluster and was wondering for any known issues. Since SQL cluster sits
on Windows, I will be responsible for both Windows & SQL Clustering.

Based on my research, yes, we can implement this scenario but I need to
install at least SQL SP 3a and MS03-031 Patch for Microsoft SQL Server
to patch vulnerabilities & that's fine. A very good insight by Uttam

Pre-requisites:

Enabled Network DTC access
Terminal Services is not installed
No Mounted drives
Services SNMP WWW, ANTIVIRUS are stopped as per KB 183692

Did I miss any thing?

Cheers,

There is one special work-around for installing a named instance on a
Windows 2003 cluster.

Installation of a named instance of SQL Server 2000 virtual server on a
Windows 2003-based cluster fails

Athif,

Some time ago, I presented the webcast for SQL 2000 Cluster on Windows 2003. You may find this useful

TechNet Support WebCast: How to install a Microsoft SQL Server 2000 virtual server on a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 cluster
Discusses how to install Microsoft SQL Server 2000 clustering on Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and differences between Microsoft Windows 2000 Server and Windows Server 2003.

Yes, for SQL Server 2000, you would atleast install SP3a + MS03-031 or better install SP4. For Windows 2003, install SP1 for Windows 2003.

Hi Uttam,

As I have already stated in my original post, YES, I have been thru
your excellent webcast.. KUDOS.

Rodney ,
I am doing this in real time :-)

Jeff,
I will be using default instance only and will re-connect the database.
Actually, I am re-building the new cluster and will then re-connect the
database from the old cluster for which I have a back up.

Happy Patching,
