sql server clustering : Single Node Cluster Upgrade

We have a SQL 2k Single Node Cluster that we are adding a Passive node
to. We have installed everything but are having issues installing SP3a
on the Passive node. The Active Node has SP3a already installed. We get
an error stating "All cluster disks available to this virtual server
are owned by other node(s)". We rolled the cluster to the passive node
and got SQL Group Errors. Any ideas?
Cheers,
John

It sees them all. They are obviously listed as unavailable since its
passive. Is is possible to upgrade the node from the active node?

Sounds like a problem with either the drive letter assignments on the new
node or its configuration in general. Can the new node control all the
disks?

Cheers,

Rod

Hi

You get the same "All cluster disks available to this virtual server are
owned by other node(s)". with SP4 also (not really a problem), BUT, the
fact that you can not fail the instance over to the new cluster is your
problem.

Once you fix that, the SP will install.

As Rodney mentioned, make sure that the resources can be owned by the other
node.

Hi

Run some basic checks on your cluster. Take SQL Server offline on the
Primary node.

Fail the cluster services over to the other node.

Looks like the basic cluster is not right.

Is the 2nd node a possible resource owner for all the resources? By default,
they are not.

If you do the install from the primary node, the SP setup should ask you if u
are upgrading the virtual server. If you select this option, it should
upgrade both nodes with the service pack!
