Hi Everyone,

I'm looking to put together a cost for building a SQL 2005 cluster with the
database running off an HP storageworks SAN or array. At this stage I
really just want to get a rough cost for the lot, so I am looking at
components, storageworks hardware and software required. Has anyone done
anything similar and able to help out?

You're help is much appreciated.

You're right. Especially with all the options for storageworks clusters.
Unfortunately I need to price everything up for tomorrow and knowing HP they
will want to send out some sales consultant to get "requirements" before I
can get a price from them.

Your best bet is to call your favorite HP reseller.

Another suggestion is to go to the Windows Server Catalog Home Page
(http://www.microsoft.com/windows/catalog/server/default-v1.aspx),
choose hardware, then cluster and search for Hewllett Packard on
manufacturer name.
You will receive a list of all the cluster solutions from HP, choose
one and go to HP web site to quote it.

Go with the HP web site. Retail prices are usually the best ones to choose
for budget numbers. Resellers can often get better prices. No one will
scream if you come in under budget.

We just installed the following cluster HP Proliant 870 with 4 - 3.4 Dual
Core with 16MB of cache.

Total 16 GB of memory

2 MSA 1000's

For redundancy - 2 HBA, 2 Controller, 2 switches.

Cost: roughly $120,000
