can I cluster sql 2000 on a ex64 windows cluster? -- sql server clustering

Which is why I was refering to running the 32 bit version of SQL 2000 with SP
4 on a x64 cluster. It is supported in a x64 non-cluster running under WOW.
I need to know if it is supported running clustered too?

There is no x64 version of SQL 2000. There is only IA for 64 bit SQL 2000.

Unfortunately I wasn't asking for myself. I don't support this
configuration with my application but so far 4 customers have called to
complain I don't support it. I agree with you that what they are doing is
not their best choice. But that doesn't stop them from doing it. I just
wanted confirmation from Microsoft that it is supported before I do the work
to support it.

Personally, I would either do one of these two implementations:
1. Install the 32 bit OS (Windows Server 2003 Enterprise) on the 64 bit
hardware and then cluster with 32 bit SQL 2000
2. Install the x64 OS (Windows Server 2003 Enterprise) on the 64 bit
hardware and then cluster with x64 SQL 2005

I would prefer option 2 because it is going to provide substantional
improvements in performance.

I would not mix and match if I could help it, but that is just my personal
opinion.

Hi Mike,
We can cluster SQL 2000 on windows cluster, But you can not use the query
analyser from 64 bit machine. Service pack is also available for 64 BIT
version.
