You may have another instance somewhere in the cluster - either a virtual instance or a local one on one of the nodes. -- Tom ---------------------------------------------------- Thomas A. Hi, I'm trying to setup a SQL cluster server on a Active/Passive Server. I get to the prompt where I select the Instance Name. I want to use the default installation however the the Default checkbox is disabled (greyed out). I am forced to select a new instance name which I dont want. How can I use the default installation? Any ideas? Thanks, Kevin.
Yes, it does. -- Tom ---------------------------------------------------- Thomas A. Moreau, BSc, PhD, MCSE, MCDBA SQL Server MVP Toronto, ON Canada [quoted text, click to view] "Kevin Humphreys" <khumphreys@hotmail.com> wrote in message news:eiVOKSMgGHA.5096@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl...
I have a sql server installation on each of the 2 nodes but there are no extra instances. Just the default ones. Does this matter? You only need the virtual instance. I'd remove those two local instances - unless you have some specific need for them. When you go to install the virtual instance, the binaries are placed onto the local disks of both nodes by the setup process, so you do only one install. The data files go on the shared disks. -- Tom ---------------------------------------------------- Thomas A. i was under the assumption that you need a sql server installation on node a and node b before you begin the installation of the virtual server. or so i setup the virtual server first and the the local installations?
