How much disk for ms-dtc cluster resource ? andrea cuozzo

hello,

I'm about to install a 2-nodes Windows 2003 Cluster, with 2 SQL Server 2005
instances: I've read in MS documentation that clustering MS-DTC is
recommended, but I can't find how much disk space shoud I reserve for it
group: can you tell me what is the recommended disk space for it ?

thanks

andrea, Italy

It doesn't need much. Even 500MB should be fine.

Unless you are using two phase commits, don't waste the physical disk
resource. Put it on your quorum.

If MSDTC is going to be used at all, I don't believe putting it on quorum is
a practice recommended by Microsoft, although it seems to be work fine in all
my tests. Becuase of the Microsoft recommendation, we have chosen to create a
640MB LUN just for this purpose and create a seperate group for MSDTC. Once
this is made a standard practice, there is little waste to speak of.

That Best Practice has been changed a million times via 301600. It is
perfectly acceptable to place in it the cluster group for lite usage or
Exchange.

It is perfectly fine to put it in the default cluster group. THe only time
that it is recommended to put it in its own group with its own resources is
if it is heavily used. Read here for more:

Russ and Rodney;

Thanks for pointing out the change in the fine print of the KB article.
