What are the reasons that you are not allowed to install the SQL Server
program files on a shared disk that's accessible from all cluster nodes?

We have a custom notification application that's written as a windows
service. We want to add it to the same resource group as the SQL Server
instance, in order to replicate some registry settings. Should we install
the service application's executable on a shared disk, or a local disk, and
why?

The service is installed on both nodes and set to manual. If the service
uses any disk space for storage of settings, then that information is
installed on the shared drive in the resource group. Other than that, use
generic service resource to run the service in the cluster.
