sql server clustering : SQL Server and File Server

What are the business requirements? If you are clustering because of a SQL
need, which is probably an extremely vital need, then adding file sharing on
top of it will result in increased risks to your SQL environment. The whole
purpose of doing High Availability is to reduce risk, and this configuration
would not be the best solution.

If the company has a huge demand for redudant file services, then consider
either a second cluster or implementing DFS with replication.

Hi,
Can someone give me an opinion with installing SQL Server 2005 with
clustering and use those servers for file servers at the same time.
Thanks
Jacques

Not only the verbose version, but I still beat you to it by three minutes.

Nobody here can answer that for you. It completely depends on your
environment.

Hi Russ,
Thank you for the information. But I should have explain a little more why
we want to install SQL Server 2005 in cluster on the file servers who are
already using Microsoft cluster. The reason is that we want to install
SharePoint Portal Server 2007 with SQL Server 2005 in clustering. When
SharePoint will be accessible the files on the file servers would eventually
be transfered in the portal on the SQL server. This way the files servers
would eventually becomes only SQL servers. What do you think, do you think
the servers would be able to take the load?
Thank you
Jacques
