Hardware recommendations for two node cluster
Posted by Michael MacGregor at 10/19/2007 10:48:40 PM
I am looking at putting the specs together for a new SQL Server 2005
cluster, two nodes. It needs to be capable of supporting multiple customer
databases, around 20-30, average database size is 3GB but several will be in
the region of 10-20GB, capable of handling 10,000 transactions per minute... more >>

2k5 SP1 upgrade software is showing different current versions depending on which node it is ran from
Posted by Michael Abair at 10/18/2007 10:08:40 AM
We have updated multiple instances of sql server 2k5 EE to SP1 and oddly
enough some of them still show that they are at
RTM version 9.00.1399.06 instead of 9.00.2156.00. when checking through ssms
and select @@version
When we run SP1 against it to see the instances it recommends for an updat... more >>
General SQL Clustering Question
Posted by DC at 10/18/2007 9:45:01 AM
I currently have active/passive SQL 2005 STD SP2 servers. I have found some
differences between the settings when I failover between both SQL servers. I
think that one of the DBA's made setting changes as well as created
maintenance plans while logged into the specific server (SQL1) instead ... more >>
Broadcom NIC Teaming and SQL Server Clusters
Posted by salsafreak at 10/18/2007 8:30:02 AM
Our failover SQL cluster is a two-node single instance environment - SQL 2000
Enterprise SP4 on Windows Server 2003 Enterprise. We're currently using NIC
teaming to give us some hardware redundancy since the blade has two Broadcom
NICs on it: one for the hearbeat private network and the other... more >>
Multiple Instance cluster
Posted by Kevin A at 10/18/2007 5:18:11 AM
I'm trying to register the server in Management Studio and I can't
connect to the 2nd instance on the cluster. I'm using the virtual IP of the
instance and even throwing in the instance name.
Tried:
VIP Instance 1 = 10.200.5.30 <- Works for first instance, registers.
VIP Instance 2 =... more >>
Single to Clustered --- Performance Decrease!
Posted by ryan NO[at]SPAM ellisgolf.com at 10/16/2007 8:50:19 AM
We had a system that ran very well as an individual server. With a
need to ensure uptime, though, we moved to an active-passive
clustering solution. Now, we've noticed that the SQL Server instance
running on the cluster is slower than the old, single server. How
could this be? None of the qu... more >>
Local Machine drives.

Quick question.
Running Windows 2003 Enterprise SP1 and SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Sp4+.
Using clustering, I have my SAN drives for the Data and log and those
transfer just fine. However, on each NODE, i have another 240GB that I want
to use for temp backups and restores. Yet, due to the... more >>

Local storage - Does it have to match?

Hi,
I seem to be at loggerheards with a member of our TA community. We have a 2
node cluster that doesn't have exact hardware. I've quoted the MS stance (see
below) but he seems adament it's not an issue.
Both servers will form a 2 node SQL cluster, both same spec but the 2nd node
has ext... more >>
Evicting a node
Posted by danieldong at 10/15/2007 9:33:01 AM
I am testing an active/passive cluster running W2003 and SQL 2005 SP2. What I
try to test is: Power down one node and then on the active node using
Add/Remove program to attempt to take that node out. According to what I read
from the Web and a book, this is a required step regardless the acce... more >>
