Active/Active to 2x Active/Passive?
Posted by Jim Millard at 3/28/2007 2:21:31 PM
I have a 2-node active/active cluster (SQL2KSP4 on Win2003sp1) supporting 3 instances (2 on one node, 1 on the other). I've received funding to upgrade the instances by adding new host nodes with better/faster hardware (Yay!). The end-result should be the 3 instances running active on the t...more >>

Install server 2003 SP2 - active/passive cluster

Hello, I can seem to find any official Microsoft info on upgrading a SQl 2005 cluster to server 2003 sp2. The release notes dont mention an upgrade in a cluster. I've done a few SP upgrades in a cluster before and the steps I would take are: -install SP on passive node, reboot -move r...more >>

I have three SQL2000 Instances running on a two node cluster. Instance A runs fine on Node 1 and Instances B and C run on Node2. All of these listen successfully on TCP, Shared Memory and Named Pipes. However, if Instances B or C are moved to Node 1 they fail to start and Event Log has SQLS...more >>

Use more than 1 node?
Posted by JayKon at 3/27/2007 9:54:02 PM
I was reading the Microsoft white paper (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/sql/2000/maintain/failclus.mspx) on clustering and noticed something I didn't expect. It seems to say that only one node of a cluster may be used at a time and that it is not for (any kind of) load balancing...more >>

I'm running a SQL Server 2000 SP4 2-node active/acitve cluster on Windows 2003 Server Enterprise Edition SP1. We have a two node cluster with two groups on them (W2K3). Each group has a sql 2k instance running and the groups each reside on a node, failing over to the other if necessary. My question is that we were looking to upgrade, but are only able to upgrade the one instance to 2K5. I assume th...more >>
